Abstract
A hook plate is commonly used to treat distal clavicle fractures or acromioclavicular joint dislocations with good clinical results. On the other hand, several complications related to the structural characteristics of the plate or the surgical procedure can occur. Several studies have reported problems with the distal part of the hook plate, such as acromion fracture or rotator cuff tear. Proximal problems, such as clavicle shaft fractures, are increasing owing to the increase in the elderly population with osteoporosis. In these two cases, after surgery using a hook plate, clavicle shaft fractures occurred proximal to the plate. Bone union and good clinical results were obtained through conservative treatment. This paper reports two cases of periprosthetic clavicle shaft fractures after surgery for type V distal clavicle fractures using a hook plate with a review of the relevant literatures.
